The first taste, subsequent to an aching desire is the first plunge into an agony, disguised as paradise
For months, it embraces you in ecstasy and makes a reclusiveness feel like company
Its entirety keeps your body warm and mind blissful, eluding mortal things such as fatigue itself
And its euphoria begins to construct a world of dreams and wonders within your very mind
But as it pumps through each and every vein, a nearly invisible, yet horrific metamorphosis occurs
Your sight is altered, as your friends become enemies that try to take what you cannot bear to lose
Your hands become claws that strike when even least provoked
And your mouth fills with fangs as you spit fear and anger into the hearts of those you once loved
When all who tried to stop you have been slain, and their bodies litter the staircase to your paradise
You will ascend it, in search of the dreams you envisioned that were promised to you
But at the summit, you will see that the ecstasy is fading and your dreams are leaving
You will chase them until your feet bleed and you cry in anguish, but they don’t want to be caught
Left in the wake of destruction, with those you once loved gone, you are alone
Alone to reflect on false certainties and become consumed by a self-loathing nature
And alone as the darkness fades over and you become lost within yourself,
To suffer as the last of the ecstasy fades, and to need it back like it’s your heroine
And it will return, carrying new vessels and the world of dreams you thought were once possible
Not to send you plunging into euphoria once again, but to revel in your torment
It will give you a taste of what once was, to give you a glimmer of hope and provoke your pursuit
But whenever you follow, it will flee
And it will never end, and the darkness will never clear
Until you accept that it will never change
For months, it embraces you in ecstasy and makes a reclusiveness feel like company
